THE BLIND VISIONARY: PRACTICAL LESSONS FOR MEETING CHALLENGES
ON THE WAY TO A MORE FULFILLING LIFE AND CAREER
By Doug Eadie and Virginia Jacko
Virginia was a successful executive at Purdue University when she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. She would slowly go completely blind. As the darkness grew around her, Virginia found the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired — and a new mission in life. Virginia turned a potentially-devastating condition into an opportunity, going from student to president and CEO of the Lighthouse in just four years.
Virginia's odyssey shows you how to create greater personal and professional satisfaction in your own life.
DOUG EADIE is president & CEO of Doug Eadie & Company, a firm that specializes in building board and CEO leadership capacity and high-impact board-CEO partnerships. He is the author of 17 books in addition to The Blind Visionary. You can contact Doug at Doug@Dougeadie.com and learn about Doug Eadie & Company at www.DougEadie.com.
VIRGINIA JACKO, president & CEO of the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, is one of only a handful of blind chief executive officers in the country. Virginia has worked closely with her Board in dramatically diversifying Lighthouse programming and more than doubling revenues. BUILDING A ROCK-SOLID PARTNERSHIP WITH YOUR BOARD:
A REAL-LIFE, PRACTICAL GUIDEBOOK FOR NONPROFIT AND PUBLIC CEOS
By Doug Eadie
Drawing on his work with hundreds of nonprofit and public organizations of every size and purpose, governance expert Doug Eadie describes how board-savvy CEOs effectively manage the human dimension of the board-CEO relationship. Using real-world case examples, he describes these five keys to building a rock-solid partnership between the organization’s CEO and the board of directors: 1.) Bring the right mindset to the governing arena; 2.) Make the board chair a close ally; 3.) Turn board members into strong owners; 4.) Make the board’s work more interesting and enjoyable; and 5.) Put a well-designed CEO-evaluation process in place.
The perfect companion volume to Doug’s Meeting the Governing Challenge, this book provides tested, practical guidance that you can put to work today in helping to manage the emotional/psychological dimension of the CEO-board relationship. The author goes right to the heart of the issue: CEOs can do a stellar job of managing the technical requirements of their jobs but ultimately fail because the partnership with their boards unravels over human, interpersonal issues. Doug’s new book places board partnership building at the top of the CEOs list of high-stakes responsibilities.
Nonprofit leaders who want their nonprofit organizations to thrive in challenging times will learn how to keep their relationship with their boards close, productive and enduring. They’ll learn how to employ empowering strategies and programs—outlined in Doug’s book—that will lead to closer collaboration with their boards in such key areas as strategic and operational planning; performance monitoring; and external relations. CEOs will learn to harness the extensive knowledge, experience, and connections that governing boards can bring to their organizations’ Strategic Governing Team, helping to assure their organizations’ long-term success and their own longevity on the job.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Founder and president of Doug Eadie & Company, Doug has spent over 20 years helping more than 500 nonprofit and public organizations to build higher-impact governing bodies, develop stronger board-CEO partnerships, and update their strategic directions. Doug has worked with public and nonprofit organizations of all shapes and sizes in diverse fields, including: association management; health care; aging; education; public transportation; economic and community development; and more.
Developer of the powerful High-Impact Governing Model™, Doug has written 18 books and over 100 articles on board and chief executive leadership and strategic change management. INNOVATIONS IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION: STRATEGIC APPROACHES TOWARDS WORKFORCE COMPETENCIES AROUND THE GLOBE
by Kathleen P. King
This book is designed primarily for potential and in-service vocational instructors who are pursuing a program of personal and professional development which will ensure competency in this specialty. In any state in the United States, there are a number of uncredentialed instructors who teach courses in vocational education. Although these individuals may be competent enough in their subject areas, there is an obvious deficiency in the foundations of vocational education. Foundations of vocational education help vocational educators lay a solid foundation from which they can better help students hold aloft the banner of the full range of education for work, which is career and technical education in its modern sense.
DR. KATHLEEN KING is a professor, keynote speaker and accomplished author who invigorates and empowers audiences on a variety of topics. Rather than defying Western andragogy, this book addresses this single most popular theory from different cultural perspectives around the globe and develops different understandings of how it may be understood, contextualized, or sometimes misunderstood.

KEEPING PACE WITH TECHNOLOGY, VOL. 1
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY THAT TRANSFORMS
(K-12 TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT)
by Kathleen P. King
In this book the author presents a new model of the potential for staff development — "A Journey of Transformation." The model provides a unified perspective for professional development in educational technology; this text explains this perspective's relevance, power, and promise for K-12 educators. Going far beyond theory, this book is rooted in experience and research among teachers. Given the needs of this context, it also provides recommendations, guidelines, and strategies for professional development in education technology. The book relates how teachers move from teacher-center teaching and learning to a learning-centered model. It provides an opportunity for teachers, administrators, and staff developers to look at staff development as much more than technology training.

PLANNING FOR EFFECTIVE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
by Kathleen P. King, Patricia A. Lawler
Technology and distance education are changing classrooms. The student body, diverse in race, learning styles, ages, and cultures, demands new approaches to teaching and learning. Society calls for quality standards in teaching outcomes and fiscal responsibility. At the heart of these challenges is the faculty. The authors' perspective is to view faculty as adult learners and faculty development programs and initiatives as adult education. The book introduces the concepts of adult learning and program development in adult education and sets forth a useful model with strategies for success. Fundamental principles and their use are illustrated in an understandable framework. Here is a practical guide for administrators and teachers responsible for faculty development.

HUMAN PERFORMANCE MODELS REVEALED IN THE GLOBAL CONTEXT
by Kathleen P. King, Victor Wang
As globalization brings different cultures together, human performance interventions and training solutions may be strained by cultures, policies and other lines of thinking specific to a particular country, region or continent. Human performance is high on the agenda of organizations around the globe because they must raise the level of company performance and bring about organizational change in order to continue to survive and thrive in a global economy. What is considered a systematic process of discovering and analyzing important human performance gaps, such as designing and developing cost-effective and ethically justifiable strategies to close those gaps, implementing the strategies, and evaluating the financial results in one country may not apply in another. Human Performance Models Revealed in the Global Context powerfully presents different models of human performance from across the globe, and enables readers to understand a much broader range of interactions, perceptions, models, and possibilities for HR management, training and development.

A
GUIDE TO CHEMICAL ENGINEERING REACTOR DESIGN AND KINETICS
By Gael D. Ulrich
Finding an equation to design a chemical reactor has been
likened to seeking one leaf on a large tree armed with only
a description of that leaf. This may explain why graduates
rate chemical reactor design and kinetics one of the most
complex and inaccessible of courses. This book teaches one
how to start at the trunk and make enlightened decisions at
each branch to find that leaf. Other features: Catalytic reactions
integrated with treatments of all reactor types, not tacked
on as an afterthought. More than 30 photographs of actual
reactors, process plants, and catalysts. Emphasis on fundamentals,
readability and clarity. Original, open-ended homework problems
based on real raections and reactors. Rigorous, consistent
SI units throughout.
SUBJECT AREA: Chemical engineering.
