Let your writing SOAR!

The Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA) is currently seeking proposals to present at its 2011 Conference in Albuquerque, NM, June 24-25, 2011 which will be held at the Hotel Albuquerque in New Mexico.

Proposals will be accepted by October 15, 2010 or until all slots are filled.

About TAA

TAA is the only nonprofit membership association dedicated solely to assisting textbook and academic authors. TAA's overall mission is to enhance the quality of textbooks and other academic materials, such as journal articles, monographs and scholarly books, in all fields and disciplines, by providing its textbook and academic author members with educational and networking opportunities.

About the TAA Conference

The TAA annual conference is a two-day event that provides educational sessions and networking opportunities for new and veteran textbook authors, academic authors, attorneys specializing in textbook and academic publishing, editors, literary agents, and other professionals.

Presenters volunteer their time and pay their own travel and lodging expenses. Acceptance of a presentation assumes presenter will pay conference registration fee and participate in the full conference.

Proposal Guidelines:

TAA invites the submission of proposals of three types:

  1. 30 or 60 minute individual presentations that would appeal to textbook authors (both print and electronic), academic authors (authors of journal articles, dissertations, grants, scholarly books, etc.), or both groups.

  2. 30 or 60 minute panel presentations (2 or more presenters) that present divergent perspectives and information about a common topic. The presenter may submit a proposal that includes his or her own panelists or indicate that other presenters with similar topics may be added as panelists at the association’s discretion. Call for Proposals to present at the 2011 TAA Conference, “Let Your Writing Soar!”

  3. 60-minute small group “roundtable” discussions that focus on a specific topic in which presenter would serve as leader of the discussion.

Suggested topics (but not limited to):

General sessions: The writing process—how to get started, stay on track, fit writing into a limited time schedule, etc.); developing collaborative relationships with other authors; e-rights royalties; copyright and permissions issues; open resources; how to promote yourself and your writing through websites; writing groups, both in-person and online, and how they can assist you with your writing.

Textbook Track sessions: The future of textbooks; new and emerging technology for authors; electronic publishing; the textbook authoring/publishing process; author–publisher relations; how to write a crossover book (one that can sell in the trade market and/or in different disciplines); textbook author websites; and contract negotiations.

Academic Track sessions: All aspects of journal article authoring (choosing a research topic, single or co-authorship, doing the research, organizing notes and literature review, choosing a journal, working with reviewers, etc.); how to create an edited book; turning your dissertation into a book (step-by step approach).

How to submit a proposal:
